There was a sharp spike in anti-Jewish incidents during the Lebanon war, in both France and England. This can explain a good deal of the story. Add to this a general rise in animosity towards strangers (perhaps due to liberalization in movements of people compared to Soviet days, and many immigrants in Western Europe) and you get additional attacks against Jews by local faschists/nationalists. Conclusion: Ask Israel to behave, and move on the peace front. And don't worry too much about the rest; it will pass.
