Israel is a wonderful place packed with malls and nice houses. Its a great place to raise children. Contrary to the propaganda you hear in chul Israel is not "impovershed"- Israel is actually rich and has one of the highest ratios of millionaires (net liquid worth) in the world right up there with Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi (google the stats if you want to read the list). I see lots of BMWs and luxury cars on the highways. Moreover, kids enjoy great independence and mine have traveled inter city at a young age. The only caveat I have is dont move to the 99% anglo hood of nofei aviv (Beit Shemesh). The people there are very cliquey and believe every rumor they hear. If you are "selected" by someone who starts a rumor about you or someone in your family, you will be socially outcasted and your kids will have very few or no friends. If you have no family in Israel you will be alone on chagim and shabbat while you see everyone else being invited over to other people's houses. And if you take the initiative and invite people over they will not reciprocate. Oh sure, people will politely say "shabbat shalom" but its all fake they wont invite you to their parties or for chag or shabbat lunch. They smile because they dont want you to know they dont like you. Meanwhile they have nothing to do with you because someone started a rumor. People in nofei aviv wont help you with work connections either because you are outcasted. Israel is wonderful but steer clear of nofei aviv.
