"Wonderer" asked "isn't it a little sarcastic that Jews were living in Iraq for thouthands of years and leaving now when the US promised democracy and freedom? " I'll overlook the fact that you confused "ironic" & "sarcastic" (although your question was sarcastic) but Jews have been leaving Iraq WAAY before the US invasion in 2003.The bulk left in the '50s,the remaining few thousand left in the late 1960s,early '70s, AFTER Saddam came to power & decades before the US invasion. Only a tiny handful were left by 2003-in fact,it was assumed to be only a few dozen & people were shocked that they had the "large" number of something like 100,who "came out of the closet" as Jews in 2003.I'm not saying that the US invasion & occupation was a good idea, but you can't blame it for the exodus of Iraqi Jews from the country. That's due to good old antiJewish sentiment by the local Arabs and official & unofficial persecution.
