We should not soon forget that the Republican Party of the USA delayed US entry into WW2 by 2 years as their leaders argued for "neutrality", with the assumption a deal would have been made with Nazi Germany had it been victorious. The party currently uses inter-ethnic animosity to gain votes which is reflected in the fact that "non-white" Americans (Americans of Black, Hispanic, and Asian descent) do not feel comfortable supporting it. Here, a contrast should be made with Canada where the Conservative Party has tremendous support from immigrants (to the dismay of the centrist Liberal Party) and the foreign minister is a gay man. The base of the Republican party has no core values and can as easily be stimulated to hate Jews as they can be to hate Blacks and Muslims. Better to be in alliance with that segment of US society that is neutral regarding ethnicity and that approaches political issues in a rational, secular manner. This segment of US society tends to vote for the Democratic option and is the choice of the majority of Jewish Americans for precisely the reasons outlined above. Furthermore, I am a US citizen born in Canada, with family in Israel, and the US Republican Party makes me extremely uncomfortable to the point of disgust. It is shameful that wealthy American Jews would compromise themselves to support such a political party. This can only be explained by ignorance, selfishness, and desire to be accepted by those with power, all of which is at odds with the Jewish tradition and experience.
