You have a limited historical perspective. The fact that the Torah Law permits divorce and remarriage during the first partner's lifetime, put it well ahead of other major faiths. The Roman Catholics don't allow divorce at all and the Church of England does ot allow remarriage during the first partner's lifetime, e.g. the Duke of Windsor and Wally Warfield Simpson or Princess Margaret Rose and Capt Peter Townsend. Charles could not marry Camilla during Diana's lifetime, and even then he could not be married in Church and had to settle for a blessing after confessing his adultery.
