I have never met one secular Jew who felt he or she was "chosen" and therefore better or "exceptional". True, we pride ourselves as "people of the book", and religiously we feel we were "chosen" as the first mass monotheistic faith to carry the word of the lord and all that, but only anti-semites say we feel exceptional on the basis of being called "the chosen". That was a very unfortunate and ill-informed statement by the author.
