It should be said, Palestinian recognition is desirable. The problem becomes, will UN recognition change the facts on the ground. In 1948, the UN recognized Israel, because Palestine at that time was under a British mandate. That is effectively not the case today. A majority of Israelis would like to detach themselves from Palestinians in the West Bank. The issue is security and violence initiated by Hamas. An Israeli think tank has suggested, that UN recognition can be an impetus to negotiations. I believe no legitimate negotiations will take place... until Netanyahu leaves office.
