The USA statements reaffirm the USA is in control. It will be the USA that determines whether the negotiations result in justice or a temporary reprieve until tensions rise again. If Palestinian statehood is compromised, it will be due to USA blind concurrence with Israel. The USA has historically supported the Israeli position. During Fiscal Year 2007, the U.S. gave more than $6.8 million per day to Israel and $0.3 million per day to Palestine. To date, the USA has skewed justice in favor of Israeli policies that have exploited the Palestinians' human rights. Coupled with USA government aid has been the outpouring of private USA Jewish contributions to expand settlements. The real issue is whether the USA can suddenly support human rights for Palestinians. It surely appears two-faced to critisize China and a host of other countries for human rights abuses and then remain silet about Israel. Palestine needs a super power advocate for its human rights.
