Mr. Bloomfield's article states a fine-tuned diplomatic doctrine titled "The doctrine of containment"...a very superb declaratory text agreed to by most members of the Security Council. It is this "doctrine of containment" that is being enforced since its origination in the 60s. The doctrine envisions, among other things, diplomatic and some non-diplomatic processes to "contain" certain predisposed worldwide forces that are perceived to act in the near future in a "suicidal" way, so as to harm the peace in a certain region or threaten the peace beyond that region! We know that Saddam Hussein started bullying neighbours and bragg a lot about his personal power. Adolf Hitler is known to have done almost the same at his early stage of power. Now, in 2006, comes the little MD in Teheran and appears to bully not only neighbours (and his own countrymen), but also is firing "diplomatic shots" accross the bows of superpowers. Even Russia and China feel uncomfortable with the little MD in Iran!
