Jacob did not follow the modern laws, neither did Solomon; but Halakha does forbid sexual relations between in-laws, though the specific list in the Torah leaves out Uncles marrying nieces, the same way it leaves out Lesbianism. It seems that at some point in Kazakhstan some incident reduced the Ashkenazi population to only fourteen surviving women and this has resulted in certain disorders which incidentally accompany the highest IQs in the world. This was in no way a desirable incident. It was forced on us by Moslems. While all Cohanim have matching Y Chromosomes, other women marry in to that community while others who convert can become Jews and have. Coupled with detailed laws forbidding certain kinds of marriage, Jews have managed to avoid the kind of problems middle eastern cultures have had. Much of the Arab world still sees Marriages between first cousins as Most Favorable. Read a National Geographic on Afghanistan a few decades ago. It went in to great detail.
