You make some great points here, but I don't think the distinguishing characteristics of wealth, modernity and secularism are minor in this context. Israel prefers a US that gives it optimal freedom and support to operate in a security sense, and one that does not push it any way relative to the Palestinian issue. Pakistan on the other hand wants a US that will back its claim to Kashmir, and will otherwise support it without forcing it to face up to its Islamic radicalism. Pakistan is the 'other' while Israel is more like a misbehaving little brother. Push comes to shove, the brother is still family.
