Number 53 is dealt with easily enough: It's the usual Zionist 'and you?' argument that fails over the detail that two wrongs don't make a right. Mark Lincoln's argument is more interesting. I'd be curious to see what the 'peace' crowd would do if the 'Lebensraum' crowd somehow miraculously went away. Do the Bradley Burstons really want peace and equality -- or do they merely tell themselves they want these things, knowing all the while that they needn't fear having them? Israel's population is drawn from so many disparate sources: I don't see a child of Geramn philosophy professors really having much in common with Yemeni village traders, even if both are circumcised. I think that Israel NEEDS the conflict. Absent it, it would have no real definition -- and over and over again, Israel has rushed to war, reassuring itself that it really faces a dire threat. It does -- but it's the threat of peace itself that is the danger.
