Is the almost universal recognition that Israel's occupations, settlements, and oppression of the Palestinian people is one of the primary motivators that fuels Islamic animosity towards the West and helps fill the ranks of extremist groups. You also seem to possess the misinformed notion that the Middle-East conflict is based on religion, when in fact it is not, and most Europeans(and an increasing number of Americans), are aware of that despite Israel's hasbara - which attempts to associate the Palestinians with global terror networks. Sorry Thomas, even Hamas makes it pointedly clear that its struggle is with Israel alone and distances itself from global Islamists. The international trend that Israel simply CANNOT overcome, Thomas, is an overall enlightenment - a natural progression of civilized thought, education, and global awareness - which is growing increasingly impatient with oppression, injustice, subjugation, and denial of human rights. And why is the ME situation the primary focus of this trend? Probably because it's been a matter of contention, and consequently in the international spotlight, since 1948 - and highlighted numerous times since by war, Israeli occupations, and illegal settlement building - all in direct contradiction to international law and U.N resolutions. Local tensions in Europe, or anywhere else, won't change any of this much, Thomas.
