And one I am happy to do. Its much more fulfilling than any other work I've done so far and I could care less than my graduate degrees are worth less than toilet paper. However, I do think that it would help immensely if society were to recognize that raising children is real work that requires at least one parent to stay at home, particularly in the early years. I think those who do this work should be given a salary, drawn from taxpayer monies. It doesn't have to be exorbitant, but it would help young couples who are struggling to pay their bills and raise their children with love. There is no substitute for a parent's love and guidance.
