Rabin was a very weak leader and had a very weak personality. He was dragged into the Oslo agreement by Peres and Beilin. His weakness was most pronounced at the time of the 6 day war when he went into a drunken stupor(Nervous Breakdown) Sharon has distinguished himself as a war hero in 1956 and 1973 and is creditted with saving Israel from a debacle in 1973 by crossing the Suez canal and enabling Israel in encircling the Egyptian 2nd Army and threatening Cairo. Contrary to some people on these pages I don't have a problem with the Lebanon war as it brought Israel respite from Terrorism. I do however fault him for abandoning Gaza without any tangible quid for quo and not fighting terror vigorously enough. His undemocratic moves also worry me although Rabin was not that big of a democrat either.

Head of J Street Israel refuses to take the blame for lack of peace

Yael Patir, Israel director of the left-leaning U.S. Jewish body, sat down with Haaretz to talk about Trump, the gap between U.S. and Israeli Jews, and the growing anger at the Israeli peace camp. Though she concedes boycott efforts by some on the left have a negative effect, she rejects calls to keep peace efforts local.
