You are all mistaken if you think the Rabbis involved in politics lead. They follow their constituents the same as all politicians. Shas is the best example. Ovadia was known as a territorial compromiser in his early days but the overwhlming majority of his people are much more right wing (ex-Likudnikim) and now so is he. He represents a constituency more than any of the secular politicians who only represent their selfish self interest. The real problem is not disenfranchising Rabbis but preventing the impostion of Religious law through the secular legal system. Protect fully the Haredi/halchic way of life without imposing it on the general population.
