Our oath doesn't require would-be citizens to pledge their loyalty to the United States of America as a Christian nation (although we really aren't a Christian nation.) There is a segment at the end that goes, "So help me God." That can, and has been, substituted for a different clause, for those who are atheists, or if the phrase goes against their religion. You see, unlike Israel, we actually don't have a State sponsored religion. We have people from all walks of life and religions here, and they're free to practice them. To have a State sponsored religion is discriminatory, and to have to swear to that religion even more discriminatory. And that is PRECISELY what Israel is proposing. Hardly the act of a so-called, "Western State," and the "shining beacon of democracy," yes?
