Is Jewish Hebron - King David's original capital and the burial place of the Jewish patriarchs and matriarchs where Jews lived continuously for thousands of years (until booted out by the British 80 years ago after many Jews were massacred by Arabs there and unable to return until 1967) - a "settlement"?! Frankly it is completely ridiculous and deeply offensive to deny the Jewish connection to our land. The sale of Machpelah to Abraham - for an outrageously high price at the time - is carefully detailed in Genesis 23. Judea and Samaria (referred to by some as the "West Bank" are lands where Jews lived for many centuries long before Mohammed was born. You can read all about them in the Tanach. Jews have prayed towards Jerusalem for thousands of years and there are many commandments that Jews are required to keep according to the Torah that can ONLY be kept in Israel. Arabs pray to Mecca and there is no mention of Jerusalem in the Quran. The return of the Jewish people to our land was not only prophesied in the Tanach, but also in the Muslim Quran which clearly states that the people of Israel will return to their land (see suras 5: 20-21 and 17: 100-104). Those of you who do not acknowledge spiritual realities and see tiny Israel as a land and people like any other are frankly missing the point. There are many Jews drawn back to the land of Israel by their spiritual connection to it and the real wholeness and far greater awareness of G-d's love here in Israel. It is not at all the same outside the land. The awesome sense of G-d's presence when davening on shabbat in the Shomron is frankly worth much suffering and material loss. Hashem is truly bringing back many of us to our land - for those with the eyes to see and the sensitivity to feel. Frankly the Arab denial of the strong spiritual and physical connection of the Jewish people to our land - all of it - is not only completely absurd, it is also contrary to historical and archaeological reality.
