While there were 700,000 Palestinian refugees from Israel, there were 850,000 Jewish refugees from Arab countries and Iran. The Jewish refugees and their descendants have accepted that they are not going back--they are now settled in Israel, France, the U.S., etc. The Palestinians, however, still claim a "right of return" so that millions of descendants of Palestinian refugees can come into Israel and take over. The Palestinian unwillingness to accept the existence of a Jewish state remains the core barrier to peace.
