I would like to begin with condemning the attack that took place. Gunning down unarmed men and women is a crime, whoever they are. Killing an unborn child is unconscionable. Whoever supports such an act is sick. However, please do not say the situation in the West Bank is "calm". I have spent around 3.5 weeks in Hebron this summer with CPT and ISM. On an almost daily basis, we were responding to settler attacks on Palestinians. Palestiniansliving close to settlements have their houses attacked, their children are beaten up and stoned on their way to school, livestock are stolen, crops are set on fire, and worse. At the beginning of August, a friend and I were beaten up by settlers. His leg was bruised, my nose was broken and I had to have surgery after a settler swung a metal pipe into my face. A Palestinian friend has his home invaded 2 weeks later and they used clubs to break his knee. The attack was in my opinion unjustified and I am not defending it. But please do not say there is "relative calm" in the West Bank. Palestinians living in and around Hebron close to the settlements live in constant fear and terror.
