"Non-Orthodox Jews in the U.S. and elsewhere may understandably balk and bridle at the assertion that Orthodox Judaism is Israel’s state-religion." Yes, indeed, we might. And we might also wonder why in the world we continue to raise huge sums of money for, and spend countless hours lobbying the US government in behalf of, a state that holds our non-Orthodox Judaism in contempt -- one that refuses to recognize the legitimacy of our rabbis, many of our practices, etc, etc. The problem is, most American Jews simply are utterly aware of how non-Orthodox Jews are treated in Israel and would be horrified if they did know. Hopefully, frank declarations like this one by David Landau, will help us spread the word.
