It's in the history books up here in Canada: British mandate territory after World War I until British troops had to evacuate due to Jewish unrest against Arab dominated administration. Prior to Lawerence of Arabia, the entire Arab world never follow the concept nation states like in Europe. It was Arab dominated since Saladin, and before then it was a big mix. In fact, if you go back in history further you'll notice it was NEVER 100% Jewish or even a majority at that. So, the mere fact that Arabs aren't allowed in the political process in Israel is extremely disheartening according to democratic principles, something also taught in our textbooks up here about the US.
