THAT is the lie, ben. Israel did indeed agree to commit itself to a complete settlement freeze to facilitate negotiations. It did so in 2003 when it signed the Road Map, and it has attempted to renege on that committment ever since. Sorry, but a written agreement is an obligation, not a "precondition", and Abbas is perfectly within his rights to insist that Israel live up to its obligations.
