One of the reasons Turkey was interested in good relations with Israel, a reason shared by other countries, was that Israel has great influence on Jewish Americans, who have great influence on the US Congress and US politics in general. Now that Israel is unhappy with recent Turkish actions, it can show its displeasure by having the US demonstrating its own displeasure with Turkey. I take it that this is the real underlining issue in the US rebukeannounced on Saturday, because Turkey's vote against the Iran sanctions was perfectly normal after it labored on some "compromise" with Iran, even if this was not accepted by others. I think it was a mistake by the US to use a Jew, Philip Gordon, to do the rebuke. This would make the Turks more suspicious of the origin of this event.
