And within a week they will emerge with an agreement. The problem has been that all "negotiations" have been conducted by politicians who have political ambitions which conflict with the realities that a true peace settlement demands. Shimon Peres, Mahmoud Abbas and Jimmy Carter are Statesmen with no further political ambitions. They are realists, recognised for their honesty and integrity, who respect each other and look to the future, unencumbered by recriminations over the past. They should enter their discussions with only one precondition; a statement by their governments and the UN Security Council that they have their full support and acceptance of their agreement.
