There is room for some sympathy for Katzav - even if he has never admitted his crimes and certainly has not repented. But what about Katzav's victims? They suffered not only from Katzav himself, but also from the lies and slanders that Katzav's lawyers cooked up. Why is there no punishment for lawyers who knowingly lie and try to destroy the victims' good name and character? Defending the accused until proved guilty should not make lies and slander permissible.
