So much for the promise of being in the Promised land. Makes it really difficult to be proud to be a jew in the 21st century. Maybe in Diaspora, where women, men of any orientation can join together in unashamed harmony to praise the source of life. Maybe in Diaspora it is just more sane to believe in a good God, to worship without fear of repression, and express one's love for Judaism through beauty and the arts. Hiddur mitzvah means so much more than the black and white of the ultra orthodox limited vision. Is this Israel's new promise to us? Give us your money, come and tour, look but don't touch and don't even think of praying here for your mere presence defiles our superior supplications.
