I'm tired of everyone claiming that progressive Judaism destroys Jewish identity. It is correct that 47% (not a majority) of non-Orthodox Jews intermarry. However, taking into consideration that 90% of Jews in America don't affiliate at all, the numbers of liberal Jews who intermarry are in fact much lower than you suggest. As for the suggestion that I'm biased and ignorant because I don't know any Orthodox Jews: several of my best friends at my Conservative school are Orthodox kids who have chosen to go there because it's a better education. I have this debate with them almost every day, and they're a lot more respectful than you guys. As to the idea that I won't raise my kids Jewish: I am thinking of attending a Jewish college program (more than can be said for many Orthodox kids), and I have in the past spent a year living in Israel. I will be in Israel for 5 weeks this summer, again in the winter, and probably for a gap year after I graduate high school. Enough said!
