I had the honor of meeting Professor Hilberg in the Fall of 1972. He helped establish a student-run year-long course on the Holocaust at Hampshire College, which was the first undergraduate course exploring the Shoah in the United States. He was gracious and consented to lecture many times. He had a wry sense of humor, and an exacting intellect. It is instructive that his work was updated several times after its initial publication. Such is the search for truth. He will be missed.
