Roosevelt's antisemitism was calculated. Although he appointed several Jews to his cabinet he desired their assimilation and identification as Americans first and secondly as Jews. Darkly, he was pleased by the nazi regime's campaign against the Jewish people as he believed - correctly it must be added - that American Jews would identify with his administration as being the lesser of two evils. Perhaps it is fortunate for him that he died just before the surrender of hitler's reich. The news of the Holocaust was just becomming public knowledge and - as a decent gentile - he would have been horrified by it.
