The Israeli govt. furthens religious intolerance by leaving the giur courses at least in some cities to the radical national-religious sector. People who want to become Jewish learn not only the religion but a specific interpretation of it: a religious-political ideology that teaches them that a 'true Jew' has to vote dati-leumi in elections, that places them each Shabbat in settler families that teach them 'real Judaism', and that teaches them that Amalek may incarnate in the Palestinians. The politicans who cry loudest now are the ones to blame for nurturing this extremism.
