Once upon a time, Venezuela was one of the most prosperous countries in South America. Government subsidies on sugar, milk, flour and a host of basic goods. Industry hummed. All the Oil Rigs/Platforms in Maracaibo were in production. Today, its a nightmare. Even the auto industry such as GM has closed down. No subsidies. Crime is rampart. The Oil Platforms have ceased to a minimum production level due to failings in maintenance. Billions of dollars flow to Cuba,Nicaragua,Ecuador and Bolivia. Loans are made to Argentina. One can only surmise that President Chavez has forgotten about his own people. Then again, Colombia and the US are fighting a drug war. I wonder why President Chavez has not joined them.? That is the sixty thousand dollar question.
