The headlines this week reeked of déjà vu, reminiscent of previous confrontations and intifadas, as conditions on the ground in Gaza are becoming more and more similar to those that preceded the 2014 war.19:05 05.02.16 | 4 comments
The reason Mr. Arens 'spend billions but don't hurt anybody' approach is so appealing has to do with one thing: Condi Rice insists that Israel must give up land and 'make painful concessions' as part of the buy-off to get Arab acceptance (or at least not raise too much stink) to "do something about Iran". Iranian nukes do not threaten the USA, they threaten Israel. Rice is blackmailing Israel to pay up or else the USA will not 'deal with Iran.' Olmert wrings his hands and says "what's a few Arab suburbs in Jerusalem (built on JNF land) compared to the Iranian nuclear threat. That's why Netanyahu and all the other 'right wingers' nave muted an ineffectual responses to the negotiations. They are bought into the fear as well. These are dark days for Israel. Vestiges of Jewish pride and Hashem are all that are keeping them from the abyss.
