Polybios, I have asked myself these questions and concluded that the Arabs goofed on many counts and one of them was not accepting the partition. It's easy for me now to conclude this because I was never in a country while war was raging all around me but if I were to put myself in the place of the Palestinians of back then with all the talk of unlimited Jewish immigration and not knowing exactly how many would take up that offer, I may have freaked out too and took the wrong decision in refusing the partition. My reading of history tells me that the Palestinian Jews and Arabs both were greedy to keep it all and both participated in massacres to spook the other group into leaving. The end result had 5 million Jews living inside Palestine while 5 million Palestine are living outside. I recognize serious Arab mistakes; do you recognize any of the Jewish ones or do you believe Israel has always been pure?
