There is surely a humanitarian case for releasing Pollard after 25 years in prison--but perhaps Israel should (for once acting discreetly, as difficult as that might be) sound out its friend Eric Cantor, the prominent Republican House figure, What effect does Mr. Cantor think that Israel and American Jewish pressure for release of Pollard would have on the general position of American Jewry? Would Mr Cantor, for instance, be willing to make strong public statements on Pollard's behalf?
