There are limits to moral judgements on political acts after the fact. Do historians have the right to judge whether the American colonists took away a continent from its Indian inhabitants or whethter the Israelites were morally correct in exterminating the inhabitants of Canaan?After a while, the morality of political acts becomes irrelevant and perhaps rightly so. The fact that the petitioners for the release of the documents are journalists and not historians, taints their motives.
