    The ultimate horror of Hitler is that he was human. That those who so blindly supported him were very human. That people like them are so common as to make them the majority in many democracies. That the political system in Germany had certain flaws and the German people certain proclivities which allowed Hitler's ever more depraved rule to flourish is little comfort when one observes similar political flaws and popular proclivities in other military democracies. The combination of racial arrogance and virulent victimhood which led to the Holocaust could happen in any nation because people are human, and humanity is as greatly flawed as it is greatly endowed.
