Polio must have been rampant in Israel before 1955 (the Salk vaccine.) I am reminded of that fact every time I watch Yitzhak Perlman, the violinist, struggle to appear on a stage. Israel's polio victims need help, regardless if they were born before or after Israel's Independence of 1948. In Texas, I knew many young polio victims also, because we had a lot of water and mosquitos to transmit the disease. Most polio victims are never cured of the disease, even if it may go into remission for many years.
