From way off here on a far sideline, it seems to me that the U.S. has every right to be very angry. The decision to build settlements in East J. was not made by the U.S. Nor, in the final analysis, is it the United States' responsibility to fix the problem of Israel and the Palestinians. It's certainly in its, and the worlds, interest, to do so but it's not inherently its responsibility. That belongs to Israel and the Palestinians. And, for all the politics, for all the history, for all the pain, for all the insecurity of the state of Israel, it's still true that winning a war does not mean that the victor automatically has the right to, or that it makes sense to, annex the territory of the beaten party.
