From time to time in the US there is debate about saying the Pledge of Allegiance "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God with liberty and justice for all", but we have decided over and over again that the pledge still stands and is no less relevant than it has been for hundreds of years. I see only good in Israelis uniting behind a pledge and in fact just the opposite. I believe a bill of rights and pledge of allegiance would be positive and reinforce Israeli commitment to their country no matter their ethnicity or religion. These words have served Americans well by reminding them what it means to be American however difficult times may be and especially during tough times when our basic rights have been in question.
