My Grandfather like many other Irish people fought in WWII with the British! A bit harsh to criticize Irish people when thousands fought and died in WWII. The Irish Republic had only gained independence around 17 years before WWII what followed was civil war and ultimately the North remained part of the UK. So yes the Irish were neutral in WWII for a number of reasons such as being anti-British, because the North was still part of the UK, because the threat from the IRA, and because they had only 20,000 troops and had not invested in defense for a number of years. I hear people talking about the IRA on here like they are the Irish government or something. You know what the Irish Government did to the IRA during WWII? They interned them. The Irish government hated the IRA and still do! The IRA thought that they were the legitiment government of Ireland and that Irish Government sold them out by agreeing to the partition of the island. So please get your facts straight!
