Have you ever been to that casino in Montreal? Have you ever seen the high end baccarat table? It is the simplest game in the world, almost naive played on the most sophisticated of boards. Players find great meaning in the pattern of the results. Its like the difference between the metaphysics and the law of averages of flipping a coin. But dont bet against the metaphysics!!!! Our great sages had great ideas. When you look at the REASONS for each law rather than the metaphysics behind it,they make sense especially relative to their time. This is what I find more interesting than the belief itself. Did you see the small budget move 'the Quarrel?' it was a debate about two friends on this very subject bringing in The Holocaust and the issue of G-d. I think its based on some writing by Denis Prager.I dont discount spirituality.Belief itself is powerful. Getting from there to the Moshiach, for me, is more difficult.I have a shrine,a mazuzza, and a picture of Tottenham on my door.
