I welcome Eldar's message and I agree with his assessment. Anything to get something different to break political gridlock that is strangling and radicalizing the Palestinians, and corrupting the Israelis into accepting whatever Bush and Olmert happen to cook up. Most Israelis want out of the territories. Period. I truly believe that if the violence stopped tomorrow, the occupation would be finished in a year. Resistance to the occupation is all well and good, but most of this "resistance" is aimed at civilians inside Israel. The occupation for the last 20 years has been a reactionary application of the short term security solution devoid of dreams of Greater Israel or biblical heritage. During the Oslo years 80% of Israelis supported an agreement. We can return to this with Abbas. I believe we are closer than we think.
