It always amazes me when people like Gideon Levy expect the fellow human beings they elect to office to be examples of perfection, unlike themselves. While our leaders should always have the highest level of integrity in executing the duties of their office, they will be as complex and flawed as the rest of us. Rabin has become a myth because he was assassinated. Should he have lived he would have been remembered some steps above Levi Eshkol and Yitzhak Shamir and some below Ben Gurion and Begin. Probably he would have encountered the same result as did later leaders with the Palestinians. Israelis view Rabin's time as PM with the fondness as it was the last time when Palestinian intentions could still be viewed with some degree of innocence, and hope for a real peace deal could be held out. Rabin was not a saint but nor was he a devil.
