Amir Peretz is no Michael Foot. And for you to use such an analogy shows that while you may know something about ancient British Labour Party history, you know much less about the Israeli Labor Party or Amir Peretz for that matter. Peretz is working class through & through. He had a hardscrabble existence that most Israelis & esp. his fellow Mizrachim can relate to. He's also a tough politician & good negotiator. There are certainly weaknesses & limitations in Peretz. But there are also many strengths which your prejudices prevent you from acknowledging. I'm not saying that Peretz will achieve all or most of his goals. Only that he deserves a shot at trying to do so. My only hope is that the catty, sniping classes within Labor don't do him in as they have so many past Labor party leaders.
