Peretz is as qualified to be Defense Minister as he is to head Hadassah Hospital's Department of Neurosurgery. Also, nobody should forget his remark, "Nasrallah will remember the name Amir Peretz." When he said it, I got a queasy feeling that he was a jackass - I think my suspicion was well founded. However, the shocking state of the IDF was not his doing - Yaalon, Mofaz, and the IDF general staff have much to answer for : It was scandalous for Israel to have allowed the IDF's backbone - its reservists - to go without training for up to five years. Israelis have acted like delusional fools for a long time, and this summer's nightmare was a direct result of Haaretzshuggana type thinking.
