Firstly, the U.S. is not concerned about which countries are democratic, but rather which ones are allies. "Democracy" is a red herring that only catches simple people. Saddam was safe gassing Kurds, since he was in our pocket at the time. When he tried to stray from us (his master) he was put down. Second, the nonsense about an alliance between "Israel and the moderate Arab states" is almost funny. Egypt is Israel's ally because we pay Egypt very well to be Israel's "ally". Israel has the best friends in the Arab world that billions of U.S. dollars can buy. Israel will not have a secure alliance with any other country in the region until it has settled the Palestinian issue fairly.
