But you made peace with Israel after attacking us in 1948, 1956, 1967 and 1973 with the avowed intention of destroying us and killing every last Jewish man, woman and child here. When you found that this was impossible, you signed a treaty with us, accepted the Sinai with all its wealth and reopened the Suez Canal for great profit. What you are saying is that Israel must never believe that Arabs will ever honour their treaties with us, and next time we repel an Arab attack, we cannot afford to be merciful and sign a peace treaty, otherwise, someone like you will come a long and say that it is all 'fake and untrue'. Where is the great Egyptian 'kalam sharaf' [word of honour]? Is this respected Egyptian tradition more imporant than taqiyya [religious deception]? Think very carefully about what you have said. You are obivously an Egyptian patriot. Do not bring dishonour upon your country.

Why we don't know how to pick our leaders

Our craving for ideology means that we are partial to ideological leaders. But we need leaders who will make smart decisions that are aligned with the public interest.
