I am perplexed by the persistent belief of many Israelis that they can live peacefully with people who have the avowed purpose of the elimination of Israel. The Arabs are irredentist and intransigent. The Arabs inculcate their youth through their school curriculum, and their entire populations through government and media operations, and the instructions of their clerics that Israel must be destroyed. Most of the Arab population subscribes to this belief. Given the foregoing facts, what would lead anyone to believe that there can be a reconciliation? Many Israelis have been deluded by converting their hopes into their perception of reality. It is not so. What is the alternative. History provides answers. There is the demographic imperative with grwoing populations sweeping aside smaller populations. Then there is the passivity of those attempting to maintain the status quo and live peaceful lives while attacked by people with an agenda and a goal. Those who adopt passivity, perish.
