Paul, stealth helps, but whether it is worth the cost is still moot. The SAM-3 which nailed the F-117 over Serbia almost a decade ago was able to do so in part because all our jamming assets were protecting a B-2 elsewhere - that about sums it up. Right now the US is trying to pimp F-22s to foreign powers to raise production numbers and thus decrease the disastrous cost of the aircraft in future buys. The airplane is mighty good, but it is very questionable whether it is worth what it costs.
